Mental Health First Aid Training

This eight hour class will teach you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders in your community.

This groundbreaking eight-hour training course gives people the tools to identify when someone might be struggling with a mental health or substance use problem and to connect them with appropriate support and resources when necessary.
Mental Health First Aid prepares participants to interact with a person experiencing a mental health crisis. Mental Health First Aiders learn a 5-step action plan that guides them through the process of reaching out and offering appropriate support.

Who Should Take This Class?
Anyone, anywhere can be the one to make a difference in the life of someone with a mental health or substance use challenge – if they know what to do and what to say.

Shelly Walker’s life focus is prayer and family. After moving to Portland from Texas in the year 2000, Shelly discovered New Thought and her passion about life lived well. As a teacher, speaker, workshop facilitator and spiritual guidance Practitioner, Shelly helps others to empower themselves to access Truth within to help transform, uplift, and renew. When the inner work is done, then the fun begins of helping to make the world a better place - for ourselves, each other and, always, the children.

Service, prayer, tithing and community, with a focus on Love and Spirit, are the foundations of Shelly’s practice. She is honored to serve New Thought Center for Spiritual Living as a licensed Practitioner of Religious Science.

Certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor

Bishop Bonnie Radden and Calvin DuPree have been certified Mental Health First Aid instructors for over 6 years. Teaching the course over a hundred times in churches, religious organizations, colleges and Corporate America. As certified instructors, they are the only approved instructors to teach the course while joining it with spirituality.

Bishop Bonnie Radden holds two Masters one in Clinical Psychology and one in Pastoral Counseling. Additionally, she received a certification in Crisis Counseling from USC to respond to mass crisis situations like the Pulse Night Club shooting and the shooting in Las Vegas.

Currently, the State of Nevada has hired Bishop Bonnie to work in setting up a Wellness Center in response to that mass shooting in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017.

She serves on the advisory board to Los Angeles Department of Mental Health, the largest Mental Health Department in the United States, as well as serves on the Clergy Advisory Board to LA County Department of Mental Health for the last four years.

Bishop Bonnie has served for the last 21 years as the Senior Pastor to Refiner’s Fire Fellowship United Church of Christ in Long Beach, CA. She also serves as the West Coast Regional Bishop to The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Yvette Flunder.

Calvin serves on the ministerial staff at Refiner’s Fire Fellowship and leads a powerful three day a week online encouraging teaching ministry entitled, The Daily Blaze.
