Rev. Dr. David Alexander had the good fortune to be born into a family that practiced New Thought theology. At the age of 13, he had his own profound awakening experience through which he saw the validity of this spiritual philosophy and its remarkable impact on his life. He also recognized then that the ministry would be his life path for he was inspired to help as many people as possible to awaken to their inner divinity, discover their greater purpose in life, and share their gifts with the world.
David went on to study at the University of New Mexico where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development and Family Relations. He became a licensed Religious Science Practitioner in 1999 and a New Thought minister in 2004.
In 2004, Rev. David co-founded the New Thought Center for Spiritual Living in Lake Oswego, a suburb of Portland, Oregon, and continues to serve as its senior minister today – 30 years after that pivotal spiritual awakening. He was inducted into the Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Preachers at Morehouse College in 2009.
A social justice activist, Rev. David has worked with at-risk youth and has served on the Board of Directors for the Community of Welcoming Congregations, a Portland-based alliance with the mission of ‘providing a voice for LGBTQ and allied people of faith.’ He also sits alongside Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith – and other internationally recognized spiritual leaders – on the governing board of the Association for Global New Thought, which offers ‘tools to empower the conscious majority.’
In 2012, Rev. David was elected to the Leadership Council of Centers for Spiritual Living – a global New Thought community comprised of over 400 ministries and study groups that integrate science with mysticism and offer effective tools for personal transformation and conscious living. He Served as Chairman of the Council for 4yrs. Currently, he serves director of Strategic Alliances for the Centers for Spiritual Living, where he helps direct and coordinate partnerships between organizations in order to foster the creation of a world that works for all.
An avid student of New Thought history and philosophy, Rev. David writes a monthly column – ‘Philosophy in Action’ – for Science of Mind magazine. He is a popular speaker and teacher at New Thought churches around the U.S. and Canada and received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the Centers for Spiritual Living in 2014.
In 2015 Dr. David was inducted into the College of Bishops and Affirming Faith Leaders by the Fellowship of Affirming Ministries.
Dr. David lives in King City with his wife Patience and their two boys and dog.
